Umoe Mandal was a partner in the Raytheon led Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) proposal effort from 2002 to 2004, bidding to design and manufacture the new US Navy class LCS.
The proposed vessel was based on UM's Skjold class Surface Effect Ship and composite material technology.
This extensive proposal effort resulted in valuable experience for UM in designing a large composite material SES, extending UM's Skjold and Oksøy technology towards the 100 meter (330 ft) mark.
